Knut Göppert

Knut Göppert studied civil engineering at the universities of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Calgary. He joined the Stuttgart-based office of schlaich bergermann partner in 1989 and became a partner in 1998. Through numerous realised projects, he has demonstrated that sophisticated architecture can go hand in hand with efficiency and cost-effectiveness. His expertise spans structural design, the development of innovative lightweight structures, and the management of international, interdisciplinary teams.

A particular focus of his work is on state-of-the-art sports facilities. He has been responsible for stadiums built for the FIFA World Cups in Germany, Brazil, South Korea and South Africa, as well as for venues for the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the UEFA EURO 2012 in Poland/Ukraine. His projects have received numerous architectural and engineering awards. With specialist publications and lectures on lightweight structures, membrane construction and retractable roofs, he continues to shape the international discourse in this field.
