Optimizing Design Using CFD

Anastasios Stamou
National Technical University of Athens Greece

Civil engineers and architects design structures whose performance depends strongly on the characteristics of the water or air flows inside or around them. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models are tools, which simulate these flows and determine their characteristics for various designs examined by civil engineers and architects, and hence enable them to select the most efficient. The lecture demonstrates the main features of CFD modeling and highlights some projects performed at the National Technical University of Athens.
