Rune Abrahamsen, CEO of Moelven Limtre AS, Norway’s largest producer of glued laminated timber, provided exciting insights into the design and construction processes of a world-record timber building in his lecture.Mjøstårnet is an 85-metre-tall mixed-use timber building in Brumunddal, Norway. Completed in March 2019, it was officially verified as the world’s tallest timber building by the CTBUH (Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat). The main load-bearing structure consists of large-scale glulam trusses along the façades as well as internal columns and beams.
Abstract
In his lecture, Rune Abrahamsen said, “It’s really inspiring to see the massive interest for this building worldwide. There is a great demand for sustainable solutions for the future, and Mjøstårnet is now the world’s tallest showcase for just that.”

Rune Abrahamsen is CEO of Moelven Limtre AS, Norway’s largest producer of glued laminated timber. In 2014, he took on the role as chief engineer for the 14-storey timber residential building Treet in Bergen. Most recently, he was in charge of the construction work for the recently completed 18-storey timber building Mjøstårnet in Brumunddal.
