Topic
The roofs he has designed for numerous stadiums, among others in Frankfurt, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Warsaw, Brasilia and Rio, have earned civil engineer Knut Göppert status as a leading engineer in structural design.
For Göppert, civil engineers will keep facing new challenges going forward both due to the standards they set for themselves and the demands made on multifunctional uses of stadiums. Particularly the roof structures of large stadiums play a crucial visual and medial role. Knut Göppert is convinced that the principles of lightweight construction combined with modern technology and innovative materials will gain increasing importance and redefine the appearance of sports stadiums compared to traditional and customary forms.
Abstract
The lecture took place in the context of the exhibition The Fifth View – Of Arches, Shells, Domes, Roofs and Their Engineers.
